How QUAN thinks
MANIFESTO
What we believe about building things, written down so it can be held against us.
We are craftspeople in an age of mass production. We are storytellers in an era of information overload. We are designers with the soul of artists and the precision of engineers.
A business is information moving between people. We build the software those people run their day inside.
— The QUAN thesis
07 chapters
Seven chapters
The thesis, taken apart. Read them in order — each one answers the question the last one leaves.
- 01ObjectiveWe choose the work. Not every brief, and never for the incentive alone.
- 02Human FirstEvery screen is used by a person with a day to get through. It should make that day shorter.
- 03DetailsThe parts nobody planned to look at get the same care as the parts everybody will.
- 04QualityQuality is decided before the first screen, not checked after the last one.
- 05Crafting & SyncingCrafting is making each part well. Syncing is making the parts agree.
- 06DesignsForm follows what the work has to do. Less, but better.
- 07InnovationNew tools earn their place by making the day easier, not by being new.
Principles
What we hold ourselves to
Four rules short enough to remember while the work is being done.
Timeless over trendy.
Frameworks change every year. The way a person reads a screen, waits for an answer and decides whether to trust it does not. We build for the second thing.
Fewer things, done properly.
One craft per domain. Two products we own completely rather than a long list we half-maintain.
Working before beautiful.
A screen that is pretty and slow has failed. Speed, then clarity, then beauty — in that order, and all three.
The details are not the details.
The error message nobody planned to write, the empty state on day one, the second week of use — these get the same care as the launch screen.
